Did you know?

  • Children lose more than academic knowledge over the summer. Most children – particularly children at high risk of obesity – gain weight more rapidly when they are out of school during the summer break

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Suncoast announced a new unique partnership with the Clearwater Veterans Alliance (CVA) in an American Flag Education Series. Part of this series includes veterans and youth working together to promote patriotism in our community.  The CVA has donated flags to all Boys & Girls Clubs of the Suncoast throughout Pinellas County with A.D. Morgan Corporation of Tampa generously donating their services for all installations.  David & Carrie Jolly sponsored the first flag pole in tribute to Wilson E. Richbourg – United States Navy Reserve and Lawson E. Jolly, Sr. – United States Army.  A Flagpole Dedication Ceremony was recently held at the Royal Theatre Arts Academy Boys & Girls Club to announce the America Flag Education Program in conjunction with the dedication ceremony on Friday, June 12, 2009.

Youth performed and eloquent speeches were given by Honorable Mayor Baker of St. Petersburg, Bob Swick President of the CVA, Gunny Davide Macon and Carl R. Lavender Jr. President and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Suncoast.  A dedication ceremony is planned at all of our clubs locations with the next being at the North Greenwood Club on August 7, 2009 at 10:00am.

Additionally the Clearwater Veterans Alliance is a non-profit organization developed to provide citizens of Clearwater and surrounding Pinellas County communities an opportunity to show their appreciation to the veterans of the United States Military Services.  The CVA organizes activities throughout the year, where the community joins together with elected local and state officials to honor all veterans of the Armed Forces.  The alliance also educates and informs the public (particularly school-aged children) about veterans and their impact on history.

“Boys & Girls Clubs of the Suncoast are proud of the contributions made by the brave men and women of the armed services.  We are particularly proud of the United States of America and the freedoms we have on behalf of our children” said Carl R. Lavender Jr., President & CEO.

The purpose and goals of the CVA CVA supports veterans and community

  1. Stage an annual day of celebration and education about veterans for the citizens of Pinellas county.

  2. Educate and inform the public, particularly school-aged children, about veterans and their impact on history.

  3. Showcase the jobs and purposes of active military personnel beyond what is shown on television. Just a few examples are building schools, establishing utility and communication services, maintaining safe environments in which to live and work.

  4. Inform the public about volunteer opportunities to assist veterans, active military and their families.

  5. Engage the business community in the support of veterans, active military and their families through job offerings, charitable support, and opportunities to express appreciation.

  6. Work together with other veteran support organizations to ensure that veterans are recognized and valued for their contributions on behalf of the citizens of the United States of America.
