Boys & Girls Clubs Honor Youth Accomplishments Print E-mail

The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Suncoast honored over 200 youth at an event held at the Wood Valley Boys & Girls Club on June 4, 2010.  Shanoah Washington our 2010 County wide Youth of the Year was the emcee for the evening, with special performances by Jackie Varras, Leslie Cruz, and Kerry Cavaballo.  Even Raymond from the Tampa Bay Rays stopped by to entertain the kids. 

The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Suncoast is proud to announce their Annual Bright Stars & Youth Accomplishment award winners. The following youth were highlighted during the program.

Scholastic Achievement – The academic award is designed to recognize youth who excel in their school assignments and demonstrate positive behavior while at school, the Club and at home.  By taking advantage of after school tutoring and technology programs, these youth develop understanding of the importance of passing tests, graduating from high school, and obtaining higher education.  Knowledge is power!

Sportsmanship – The sportsmanship award is designed to recognize youth who foster leadership skills while learning on and off the field of play.  They are Club members committed to sportsmanship, team spirit, achievement, and responsibility.  They promote good character among its members and throughout the Club

Local Club Youth of the Year – This is the premier recognition program for Club Members.  This program celebrates service to Club, community and family, academic performance, moral character, life goals, and poise and public speaking ability.  Every month one youth from each of our Clubs is selected as the Youth of the Month.  At the end of the year all youth of the month are voted on to become their Clubs representative for Youth of the Year.

2010 Peg Nunn Scholarship Fund Recipients – Six graduating youth each received $2500.00 Scholarships from the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Suncoast Women’s Guild in Memory of Peg Nunn our founder. These youth graduates received these scholarships based on their academic performance.
